About Richard
Long before founding Bodacious Country Music, Richard Nelson was immersed in the vibrant Northern California music scene of the late 1960s. As manager of a regional rock band, he helped guide a group that shared stages with nationally recognized acts, including Southern Comfort and Taj Mahal, and recorded with Mercury Records/Phillips Label. Along the way, he crossed paths with many of the colorful personalities who helped shape one of the most influential eras in American music. Those experiences left him with a lifelong appreciation for the craft of songwriting, performance, and the power of music to bring people together.
Yet Richard’s story extends far beyond music.
Raised with the values of faith, family, hard work, and love of country, he built a life shaped by service, perseverance, and a deep respect for the people who work the land, serve their communities, and quietly make America strong. Those experiences now form the foundation of the songs he writes today.
Drawing inspiration from rural Northern California, small-town churches, military service members and veterans, family traditions, and the lessons passed from one generation to the next, Richard creates music that speaks to the heart. His songs blend classic country storytelling, country-rock energy, gospel conviction, and patriotic themes into music that feels both timeless and authentic.
Whether writing about a grandfather’s wisdom in Grandpa Always Said, the strength found in faith, the pride of military service, the joy of family, or the simple beauty of country life, Richard’s goal remains the same:

Today, through Bodacious Country Music, Richard continues to write and release original songs that celebrate enduring values, real people, and the belief that great country music should inspire, encourage, and leave listeners better than it found them.
Now in his eighties, Richard continues to write with the same passion that first drew him to music many years ago. Every new song is another opportunity to preserve a memory, honor a life well lived, strengthen faith, celebrate freedom, or simply put a smile on someone’s face.
